New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT)
2023-2024
The speaking part of the NYSESLAT will be from 5/1/24
Listening, Reading, and Writing parts will be from 5/13/24
*Students will be excused from all of their classes during testing.
The NYSESLAT is given to all students who are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) and Multilingual Learners (MLs) by the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL). The purpose of the NYSESLAT is to annually assess the English language proficiency level of ELLs and MLs enrolled in Grades K–12 in New York State schools. The test gives the state, schools, parents, and teachers important information about the English language development of ELLs and MLs. The guide to this assessment that has been translated into 22 languages can be found here.
Letters to parents regarding the NYSESLAT dates are translated into Chinese, Korean, and Spanish below.

In order to avoid long wait times, we have scheduled time blocks.
On Thursday evening, if the last/family name begins with:
A through G 5:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
H through N 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
O through T 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
U through Z 7:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
All last names--7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Open conference)
On Friday afternoon, if the last/family name begins with:
A through G 12:45 p.m.-1:15 p.m.
H through N 1:15 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
O through T 1:45 p.m.-2:15 p.m.
